Unfortunately, Americans consume approximately 3500 milligrams of sodium per day. Eating a single meal at any fast food outlet means taking in more than 1000 milligrams of sodium and daily consumption of such foods is certainly not good for the body.

Individuals must also be mindful about eating some of the well known low-fat and low-carb diets that are constantly being advertised as healthy options to help dieters achieve weight loss. The truth of the matter is that these diets are often loaded with sodium and this, even if it does not cause weight gain, can still result in unnecessary health problems. High amounts of sodium is in fact, a major reason why people suffer from high blood pressure as well as cardiovascular diseases. And, of course, it also promotes unwanted weight gain.

Proper Fluid Balance

Sodium can effectively help the body in maintaining proper fluid balance but by consuming too much of it, this balance is upset which leads to overworked kidneys and intestines.
